New York is beautiful during the holidays! This picture was taken two days before New Years Eve. The crowds were crazy and police were guiding tourists onto the crosswalks, but there was the feeling of joy in the air. In such an enormous crowd you have a feeling of being part of something bigger, but you can also feel overwhelmed.
I used to work in NYC and one of my accounts was Saks. During the holidays I was able to walk to see this Christmas tree and skating rink every day. On the day this picture was taken I decided to walk through Saks. As I was passing one of the line representatives, we started talking. She told me that she worked in Saks for over 25 years and that I looked familiar. I told her which company I worked for, and she pointed out the exact spot where I used to set up promotions. My job was fun in that I had cream of the crop accounts and I traveled to Henri Bendel's, Saks and Bergdorf Goodman on a rotating basis. I was in Saks once every other week.
In life, it's all about the connections we make and the people who make an impact on our lives. On a "larger than life" kind of day, it was nice to know that a small connection was remembered and gave us both a sense of community. Being part of something that makes us smile, is like coming home....over and over again. That happiness and relief you feel after a busy day should be bundled up, protected and kept in your heart. Dig deep and find that place in you in times of need or when you are feeling alone in a big unfriendly world.
